USA: Executions September 2010

In September 2010, 9 human beings are scheduled to be executed in the USA. A total of 40 have already been executed in 2010 (see below).

This month, the USA distinguishes itself: a woman is scheduled to be murdered (Teresa Lewis, first woman to be executed in Virginia since 1912, with an IQ just above 70) while another woman (Gaile Owens) saw her death sentence commuted. A mentally disabled man (Holly Wood, with an IQ of 64, below the Supreme Court ‘Atkins v. Virginia’ ruling) is also scheduled to be murdered. Another seriously mentally ill person (Cal Coburn Brown) is scheduled to be murdered by the State of Washington. Notably, there are NO executions scheduled in September in Texas, where ‘Journey of Hope…From Violence to Healing’ will travel from October 15 to 31.

Please help STOP THESE EXECUTIONS and ACT to Abolish the Death Penalty in the USA.
Thank you! GD

What to tell Governors and Boards of Pardons and Parole?

  • State your concern that executions continue to take place despite increasing public recognition of the inherent flaws and failures of the death penalty system.
  • Express outrage and alarm at the high number of executions taking place in the USA.
  • Urge the Board of Pardons and Paroles to recommend clemency. Urge the Governor to stop the execution.
